Tanks for the memories

All kinds of things wrong with this one, but hey what are sketch blogses for?

What is it has a trunk, but no key, weighs 1000 pounds and lives in a circus?

That's irrelevant.

The first one is a tad blurry. I took these with a camera rather than scanning them. BUT YOU GET THE IDEA.

Meet the Flintstones?

I promise non-character sketches will come soon. Scout's honor. Until then, look at this piece of paper.

A little WIP

Ok so the posting daily (or even weekly) thing isn't going so hot. Curse you Call of Duty! And laziness. Curse that too. Anywho, this is something I was going to submit for contest, but obviously I didn't get close to finishing it. But I'd still like to, so here's a WIP.

LET'S KICK IT UP A NOTCH.

More Trover

I'm working on something for my friend Dan. It's called Trover. It's a creature that finds things? YEAH! Also, a spaceship!

Trover

I'll talk about these later.

sketchy sketchy

Just sketching around. I'm trying to 'design' a motorcyle that isn't necessarily mechanical. I guess that doesn't make any sense. But that's what I'm doing.

City Block

I've been working on my uncle's website (Clear Water Pools), and it's been a week since I last updated. Gonna try to be better than that. Like Wayne Gretzky said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." He also said, "I don't like my hockey sticks touching other sticks." So believe what you will.

Here's a sketch I'm working on for a digital painting. I hope it turns out totally sweet!

I'm looking forward to painting on it and seeing if I can generate some good lighting. We shall see, I don't do it very often.

If you get a chance, check out the movie Sukiyaki Western Django. It is an epic tale of blood, lust and greed. It is rad.

Later skaters.

Some light reading

Here's the final version of the image I was working on the other day. I feel I made some strides in it that will help me push towards better work. Lighting and color are one of my big focuses, and I think I'm learning a lot as I work.

I also whipped this up a couple days ago. I know I said I was going to focus more on environments and inanimate objects, but this just sort of happened.

The boots are kinda weird looking.

The thing last night was sort of a bust. It was more of a mass interviewing process rather than a situation for networking. I hung out for a bit but it wasn't really worth it to stick around too long. There was like a million nerds there. On the plus side, it got me working pretty hard, and I feel like I have a good head of steam to carry on.

As Paces Hip

I started watching a Gnomon video today about light and color. So far it has been very insightful. I found myself noticing colors in things I never thought about on my way home from work. I mean I always knew how it worked, but for some reason I'm being more conscientious about it. Scotch neat.

I started this yesterday and continued working today. I have a bit more to finish up on it, but I'm liking where it's going. The color and light isn't perfect, but it's drastically better than when I left it yesterday (before watching the video).

I don't do vehicles/objects/environments near enough (hardly at all), so I'll be focusing on those things for a while. I think this is a decent start.

In case you wanted proof

While waiting for my parents this morning I did a quick sketch to properly convey my persona.

I'm sure more of this will worm it's way on to this blog.
I'm going to a function at a game studio next week and I need to whip up something quality to take with me. I'm not really expecting to have professional enough work yet, and I'm not really concerned with that. But it would be nice to get some feedback and have something to remember me by. Or I could just flip out when I'm there and run out of the room shooting a gun in the air.

TGIFF

I'm working on an illustration for work that is of our association president. It's always fun trying to draw someone in a way that satisfies their own self image.

Here's a little sneak preview of something I'm working on. Mayhap I'll post the final on inauguration day??

Parents are getting in town in a few hours to help with wedding planning. It's going to be a fun and fast year! I may not be able to post until Sunday. We shall see.

I want YOU! (to read further)

I was going to write a lengthy post about "finding an identity", but it was coming out very emo, and that's just not my style. So I'll say this: I'm going to use this blog to attempt to keep me on track creating something as close to every day, if not multiple times a day, as possible, and hopefully to help me get better as an illustrator/designer. Sometimes things will be crappy, but I'm going to post them anyway to show myself that it's okay. If you feel like telling me how crappy it is or possibly just give me some encouragement, please feel free to do so.

I'm working on a recruitment ad for our magazine currently, and whipped this up. It's really more of an exercise, seeing as I was using the original poster as a reference and purposely made it as similar as possible. But I'm happy with how it came out and it was nice to paint this way instead of my usual style. It's all digital.

Allow me to reintroduce myself

I just wanted to get a quick introductory post here to get the ball rolling. I'm going to be using this blog to share my thoughts as well as any sketches, paintings, etc. that I produce. As the name of the blog suggests, I'm a big fan of both firearms and bears. I like a lot of other things as well, and I'm sure you'll find out about them if you chose to keep reading. I hope you enjoy.
